Bio
Scott Buckner
I’m a contemporary wood sculptor creating abstract forms that explore balance, movement and material – bringing warmth and presence to modern spaces. My work is guided by spatial awareness and creative emphasis. Over the past two decades of sculpting, my abstract work has evolved as I gained experience with newer and more refined tools. Additionally, the wood species has improved, transitioning from construction-based woods to more rare hardwoods in my current work. The designs rarely depict human or animal forms, instead focusing on smooth, curved lines and the use of negative space. Contemporary pieces utilize the natural warmth of wood, often left unstained or painted to showcase the wood’s inherent color. Occasionally, the live edge is incorporated to create a striking contrast.
When you walk away from my studio with anything, it is the sense that these are objects made to be lived with: not decorative afterthoughts, but slow companions. They invite you to return, to notice new marks at different hours of the day, and to carry part of their quiet weather into whatever space they inhabit. For a gallery or collector, that temperament—refined technique coupled with resonant concept and practical longevity—makes them quietly irresistible.
