Michelle Montjoy
A 2023 California Art Council Establish Artist Fellow, and past recipient of Creative Catalyst and California Arts Council grants, Michelle Montjoy has shown at Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, Art Produce Gallery, ICA North (formerly Lux) the San Diego International Airport, Oceanside Museum of Art and more. Her installation- Breathing Room, is a space for quietness and reflection at the New Children’s Museum in San Diego. Social practice projects include Evidence at Working Title exhibition, To Do- a mending project with Anna O’Cain and Siobhan Arnold and River with Oceanside Museum of Art.

Artist's Statement
When I am paying attention I find the world in my backyard
A dense language of birdsong and weeds, seedpods and elegant sticks
The hen that lays the tiny eggs, the scrap wood near the shed, ant hills and leaf piles
This patch of land is an organism, a body, a community, a world
Fertile, dormant, shattered, remade
With small gestures and deliberate time my hands respond to this fragile alchemy of us
